What is conservative dentistry?

Conservative dentistry, or stomatology, deals with the treatment of caries and reconstruction of permanent defects in dental tissue of non-carious origin (resulting from trauma or improper tooth brushing). Patients often call it “general dentistry”, or simply “dentistry.”

What causes caries?

Caries generating bacteria present in the oral cavity as the result of digestion of carbohydrates from daily food produce acids, which dissolve enamel and dentin. It is an irreversible process. Destroyed dental tissue will not regenerate. The treatment of caries relies on mechanical removal of the damaged dentin and filling the defect.

A composite material is most frequently used to fill a dental defect.
